Inhalt der Ausgabe 008/2026:
The Strange Defeat of Nuclear Deterrence
In June 2025, Ukraine's security services carried out a daring strike inside Russia, hiding short-range attack drones in cargo trucks near air bases as far as the Amur region on the Chinese border. Remotely launched via Russia's mobile network, the drones destroyed at least ten strategic bombers and damaged 41 planes in total, including some used for nuclear command and control, per Ukrainian assessments.
Iran’s New Grand Strategy
At the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran in February 2026, the Islamic Republic appeared battered: large-scale bombing destroyed industry and infrastructure, while a U.S. naval blockade devastated the already ailing economy. In early March, President Donald Trump said, "We've decimated their whole evil empire," and weeks later declared "total and complete victory."
The Next Russia Threat
In its fifth year, the war in Ukraine has reached an inflection point. Russian forces are visibly struggling as Kyiv’s strategy to make the war futile for Russia gains traction. Europe’s security does not depend on this outcome alone: even after defeat, Russia will remain Europe’s main threat for years, capable of and committed to disrupting the continent’s security architecture.
